Winemaker

David Church grew up with Warramate Wines. From the age of eight, the vineyard and winery were a part of his life and following in his father’s footsteps, wine became his passion also.
David had only recently graduated from The University of Melbourne Medical School when he enrolled at Charles Sturt University to study Wine Science in 1987. He completed the degree in 1994 with Honours whilst completing his training to become a General Practitioner.
With a reputation for a formidable palate, David has worked in the Adelaide and Melbourne Wine Shows as Associate Judge. He has an extensive knowledge of the wines of the world and how they are made, and he has travelled to many wine regions of the world to get first hand experience. In 2001, he worked at vintage time for Georg Breuer, a highly regarded German Riesling producer.
David has a perfect personality for winemaking; passion, perfectionism and persistence.
David also has a great team working with him. The vineyard is meticulously cared for by Ryan Johnstone, Warramate’s vineyard manager.

David’s wife, family and friends all work at Warramate during the busy times of the year to ensure another successful vintage. The Warramate Cellar Door is staffed by Lianne Slinger, Maureen Irwin, Jacki Tiller & Beth Thompson, all passionate wine retail professionals, with years of experience.
